Carl Fredrick Alexander Maughan was born and raised in the Southern African Country now known as Zimbabwe. After Graduating from High School in South Africa he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994 from Wichita State University with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy.

Carl earned his Juris Doctorate from The University of Akron, Ohio in May 1997. After being admitted to the Kansas Bar he worked with renowned criminal defense lawyer, Dan Monnat. In 2002, Mr. Maughan started his own law firm and worked as a sole practitioner until September 2004 when he joined his wife, Faith Maughan, a former prosecutor, and formed the law firm which became Maughan and Maughan LC.

Mr. Maughan maintains a general practice focusing in the areas of criminal defense and appellate advocacy with some attention to civil litigation, corporate law, international law and aviation law. In his primary practice areas Carl has represented clients accused of crimes including misdemeanor traffic, DUI, State and Federal drug crimes, person crimes including homicide and all areas of criminal law.

Mr. Maughan is holds a private pilots certificate, plays rugby with the Wichita Rugby Club and attends St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church with his wife and two children. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is Licensed to Practice before the Municipal, State and Federal courts of Kansas.

Faith Anne Johnson Maughan was born in Peabody, Kansas on December 9, 1970. She graduated from Peabody High School in 1989, and earned a B.A. in Psychology from Washburn University in 1993. After earning her degree, Mrs. Maughan worked for two years at Menningers in Topeka, Kansas.

Mrs. Maughan attended law school at Washburn University School of Law, earning a Juris Doctorate in May 1998. She was admitted to the Kansas Bar the same year. During law school, she clerked for Bennett & Dillon in Topeka and the City of Wichita Prosecutor's Office.

After receiving her law degree, Mrs. Maughan worked as a prosecutor for the City of Wichita and gained experience in private practive as an associate with Smith Shay Farmer & Wetta practicing in the areas of immigration, probate, trusts, criminal matters and civil litigation before returning to prosecution as an assistant district attorney with the Reno County District Attorney's Office. In September 2004 Mrs. Maughan left the district attorney's office and joined her husband, Carl F. A. Maughan in forming the firm that became Maughan and Maughan LC. Faith practices in the area of probate law, wills, trusts and estates, juvenile law and acts as the administrative partner of the firm. 

Mrs. Maughan serves as Judge in the City of Colwhich and as prosecutor for the City of Maize and the City or Park City.  She is a Captain with the United States Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General's Corp and worships at St Catherine of Siena, Catholic Church.

Kate Zigtema is a native Kansan.  She earned a bachelor of science with double major in International Business and Finance from Georgetown University in 2004. Kate returned to Kansas and was awarded her law degree from The University of Kansas School of Law in 2007. She was admitted to the Kansas Bar in September 2007.

While completing her education, Kate honed her research, writing and oral advocacy skills by representing Kansas University in the Jessup International law moot court competition, working with the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy and by joining the Johnson County District Attorney's Office where she prosecuted felony and misdemeanor crimes on behalf of the State of Kansas.

Upon Graduation Kate joined Maughan and Maughan LC where she now uses her experience prosecuting crimes, and her considerable research, writing and oral advocacy skills to defend those accused of crimes. Kate focuses her practice on criminal defense litigation and appellate advocacy.   

Kate is a member of Wichita Bar Association, Kansas Bar association, Wichita Young Lawyers and participates in the WBA mentoring program. She is licensed to practice law in Kansas and Missouri and works from both the Kansas City and Wichita area offices.

Justin Waggoner completed his undergraduate degree at Kansas State University in 2005, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business and a minor in Spanish.  Justin subsequently received his law degree at the University of Kansas in 2008.  He was admitted to the Kansas Bar in April of 2009.

As a law student, Justin wrote three papers that won national writing competition awards, represented KU Law in Moot Court, and earned a Certificate in International Trade and Finance.  He also clerked with the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System, worked for private criminal defense attorneys, and served as a research assistant.

Justin’s practice currently entails primarily criminal defense work, he intends to expand his practice into other areas of the law.
